In today’s world the need
to stay informed about current events is of great importance. With the continued
shifts in our country’s economic, political, and governmental areas it is to
our benefit as a society to stay informed. In the realization of this need, many
people are forgoing broadcast and print media for the sake of time and are seeking
more efficient means. These means include the gathering of media through the
internet by various services such as websites, emails, blogs, and podcasts.
This use of the internet is one of efficiency and of convenience, allowing
people to access these services effortlessly regardless of time or location.
The use of the internet for gathering media has been greatly
beneficial in my life. I have personally seen how various services provided on
the internet have served in helping me stay up to date with current events. For
example, through email, I can receive the daily news while being able to go
through other media delivered to my inbox. Not only has the internet served me
to stay informed, it has allowed me to keep in touch with family and friends
through social networking. This use of social networking is one of great
advantage. Without the need of an external service such as telephone service,
it can be easy and inexpensive to stay in touch with people that you do not see
on a regular basis. This is wonderful for those who have family and friends
internationally. One does not have to bare the cost of high value phone
services or the unnecessary purchases of phone cards.
Together with its efficiency, access to the internet can be very
convenient. One can access the internet anywhere they are located. The internet
can be accessed on home desktop computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets, and more.
Anyone who has a service provider that provides internet connection can have
access to the internet anywhere they are in the world. With the use of portable
accessories like laptops, cell phone, or tablets, one can be up in the air
flying in an airplane at an altitude of 30,000 ft and still be able to access
the internet to receive media. Regardless of one’s location, the ability to receive
media online can be done at their convenience.
Receiving media online has been a great achievement for this new age.
With a society that has a high value of time and money, consumption of media through
the internet with its many services is both efficient and convenient for all
people.
